The author, while illuminating the central actors, statements, and opinions in the debate, investigates the public discourse on linguistic equality between men and women that has taken place in Switzerland from the ‘90s on till 2009. A linguistic analysis of relevant media texts traces, by applying theories of media studies, the importance of the topic on the Swiss public agenda and its image conveyed to the audience. On the basis of the results, the correlations between the public discourse and the rapid implementation of linguistic equality in Switzerland shall be evinced. The investigation, thus, contributes to the incipient research field of linguistic discourse analysis, using, interdisciplinarily, theories and models of media studies for the good of linguistic investigations.
