Die exzentrische Position des Menschen in der deutschen Philosophischen Anthropologie

This article shows how the categories of the ‹centre› and ‹periphery› help understand how German philosophical anthropology, a paradigm represented by Scheler, Plessner and Gehlen, deals with the challenge of evolutionism. The starting point of this paradigm is the diagnosis of a crisis of anthropocentrism. The natural sciences and the theory of evolution have relegated Man to the periphery: he is no longer the centre of the universe. Philosophical anthropology accepts this first shift, but adds a second shift, showing how Man occupies an eccentric position within life. Philosophical anthropology thus makes an original and stimulating contribution to the debates about animality or culturalism.
